Alana and Lauren Burns-Atkin Make Swimming Finals

Congratulations to Alana and Lauren Burns-Atkin who represented St Mary’s at the Swim Ulster School Championships at Bangor Aurora swimming pool on Saturday 17th October.

It was a very busy morning with swimmers representing schools from across Northern Ireland.

Alana swam in the under 10 category swimming freestyle and breaststroke over 50 meters. Alana finished 12th in the freestyle and only just missed out of being in the final. She did however get the qualifying time to represent the school at the Ireland national minor schools championship in February 2016. Alana missed out of getting her qualifying time for the breaststroke by 0.43 of a second.

Lauren competed in the under 9 age group and also did freestyle and breaststroke. She performed well in the freestyle getting a respectable time. In the breaststroke she did amazingly well and finished 10th in the heats and made it into the final. Her time for the heat qualified her to go to Dublin with her sister but when she was in the final she improved her time by 2 seconds and finished 9th overall. An amazing effort by both.

On February 7th 2016 the girls will again be representing the school in the national swimming competition in Dublin. Alana in freestyle and Lauren in breaststroke against swimmers from across all of Ireland. Good luck girls!
