New School Work Begins

‘Glassgiven Contracts’ are now on site. Work is projected to last 66 weeks. This is a completion date of May 2017. It is anticipated that we will occupy the new school during the summer of 2017 ready for the start of the 2017 academic year.

School PTA

The next meeting of our PTA will take place on Tuesday 23rd February at 7.30pm. All support is greatly appreciated.

Our annual PTA Coin Drive will take place on Wednesday 10th February. Children are asked to bring any loose change from home on Tuesday. Each class will, in turn, make their own patterns and designs of coins around the assembly hall. The class with the heaviest amount of coins will receive a prize. The coins will then be counted and donated to the PTA. This year the PTA will support the school with the purchase of classroom based resources. Thank you for your continuing support.

A Valentine’s Day Disco will take place on Friday 12th February from 6.30pm to 7.30pm for children up to P3 and from 7.45pm to 9.00pm for children from P4 to P7 in the school hall. £3.00 admission.

Workshops

The next Literacy Workshop will take place on Thursday 21st January from 7.30pm. The next Maths Workshop will take place on Wednesday 27th January from 7.00pm in the school.

Sensory Support Workshops for 5 to 7 year olds will take place at Donard Special Needs School on Saturday mornings on 23rd January, 30th January and 6th February from 10.30am. Parents and siblings are encouraged to attend.

Christmas Nativity

Thank you for the fantastic support for our P1 and P3 Christmas performances and our P2 Nativity play. All the children performed brilliantly. Our thanks to the staff of St Patrick’s who were able to facilitate our use of their school assembly hall. This is much appreciated.

Santa’s Visit

On Tuesday 15th December children from the Playgroup, Nursery, P1, P2 and P3 classes were greeted by a surprise visitor, Santa Claus, who distributed gifts to the children. Many thanks and our appreciation to Stevie Green who was able to assist us on the day.

Football Team Victory

Congratulations to St Mary's football team who won the South Down 5-a-side competition at Kilkeel last Wednesday. All the boys played fantastically well. Well done to Liam Vaughan and Taylor Hill, both boys had an outstanding tournament. Our appreciation and thanks to Mr Devlin for taking the boys to the tournament.

The next round of the EVO league will take place at Cheney Park on Thursday 28th January from 9.30am.

Text Santa appeal

The magnificent total of £445.75 was raised as part of the Text Santa Christmas Jumper Day appeal. Thank you to everyone for your kind generosity.

Cross Country

Well done to our Cross Country team who took part in the final race of the season at the Academy Banbridge last week. Well done to Chloe Mitchell, Cara Henning and Wiktoria Juncho who were the first girls home for St Mary’s. Congratulations to Taylor Hill who finished 4th, to Ryan Meara who finished 16th and to Ryse Berry who finished 30th out of 136 runners in the boys race. This is a fantastic achievement. Thank you to Mr McGrane for taking the boys and girls.

Parking

Please continue to use St Therese’s car park to avoid congestion on the Scarva Road. There is limited parking available in St Patrick’s car park. The drop-off arrangements are working well and we would encourage parents to either park in St Therese’s car park, if you wish to escort your child to the school playground, or use the supervised drop- off points in St Patrick’s car park.

After School Clubs

Please check the school website for details of our after school Clubs and to download a copy of the school Dinner Menu.

Traffic Patrol

Please do not park in Clan na Banna car park. This is for staff parking only. Please avoid parking on the main road near our entrance and where our Traffic Patrol man operates. This is dangerous as it blocks his vision for crossing children.

Please be aware that Police and Traffic Wardens will be patrolling the Scarva Road area, in the mornings, to combat cars parking illegally or dangerously.

Half Term

School will be closed from Monday 15 February to Friday 19 February 2015 (inclusive) for the half term holiday.
