Trócaire

This year's Trócaire Lent Campaign is about the supporting people in the developing world to improve their lives, meet their basic needs and ensure their human dignity.

As in previous years each class and year group will be organising special money raising events throughout March in a bid to raise as much money as possible, concluding with a non-uniform day on Wednesday  25 March.

Each year we rely heavily on parental support throughout the Lenten period. We are acutely aware of the difficulties of the present economic climate but we hope that together we can raise enough money to make a difference. Your donation will help a community to install a water pump or a water irrigation system. This will free up children’s time from fetching water so they can attend school, and will help families to increase their crop harvest and grow more food to eat.

Additional information about the campaign can be found at the Trócaire website at www.trocaire.org. Thank you for your continuing support

Parish Mission

Seapatrick Parish Mission will take place from Saturday 28 February to Sunday 8 March. Details of the Mission are available from the school’s website. Local schools have been invited to attend the 10.00am daily Mass during the week of the Mission. We hope as many families as possible will be able to attend the Mission.

School PTA

A huge thank you to all our children and parents for the fantastic support for our Coin Drive. A total of £1012 was raised for the PTA. Congratulations to Mrs Kane’s P5 class who won the prize for the heaviest amount collected. Well done everyone!

Our PTA will host a Family Quiz in St Mary’s assembly hall on Sunday 8March in the school assembly hall from 2.30pm to 5.00pm. This will be the last PTA event in our present school building. All families and children are encouraged to attend.

The next meeting of the PTA will take place on Tuesday 10 March at 7.30pm. All support is greatly appreciated. Parents and volunteers can contact our PTA via email at stmaryspta1@hotmail.co.uk.

School Mass

Thank you for the tremendous support at our Open Evening and at our Celebratory Mass last week to commemorate the closing of the present school building. Well done to all are readers, singers, choir and musicians at our Mass. This is the first time that our whole school from preschool to P7 have been in attendance together at Mass.

 World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 5 March we will be organising various book related and reading activities in school. Children are encouraged to dress up as a book character for the day to make it a fun event.

World Book Day Tokens have arrived at school. The £1 discount token will be issued to all pupils this week. Scholastic Book Club will be in school during the week Monday 16 March to Friday 20 March. The tokens can be redeemed against the purchase of any book between the Monday 2 March and Sunday 29 March 2015.

Credit Union Quiz

Well done to the St Mary’s Quiz Team who represented the Banbridge area at the SELB Finals of the Credit Union Quiz, in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry last Saturday. Unfortunately the team did not get through to the next round but performed extremely well. Congratulations to team members; Fergal Scullion, Ana Murphy, Sorcha Boersma and Donal Scullion.

St Patrick’s Day

School will be closed on Tuesday 17 March for St Patrick’s Day.

As part of our St Patrick’s Day celebrations Monday 16 March will be ‘Green Day’ at St. Mary’s. All children are asked to donate £1 to Trócaire on the day.

Thornton’s

On Monday 16 15th March 2016 all our children will have an opportunity to decorate their own Easter Egg with Thorntons.  The cost for an individual Easter Egg and workshop is £2.50 per child.

Kind Donation

Thank you to Betty McCracken, whose grandson, Adam, is a pupil in the AS Class recently celebrated her 65th birthday.

She requested that instead of gifts, people would make a contribution to St Mary's AS Class. She has kindly donated £380 to our class. May we thank her and all her extended family for this very generous gift. It will be used to buy new resources and take our children on school outings.

School Closing Mass

Thank you to all our parents who were able to attend our Celebratory Mass on Friday. Well done to all our musicians, readers, choir and all participants.
