St Mary's Primary School Banbridge

Celebrations at St Mary's Primary School as it prepares for its temporary move to St Patrick's College.

6th Mar 2015

On 27 February 2015, the Church of St Therese, was the setting of a Celebratory Mass, for the staff, pupils and families, past and present, that have had an affiliation with the local Catholic Primary School. The Very Reverend Canon Stevenson, officiated at the mass, and it was con-celebrated with our curate and school chaplain, Fr Stephen Crossan. Fr Tony Corr, our ex-curate and past school chaplain, returned to Banbridge and graced us with his presence on the altar.

It was with a great sense of joy and pride, that St Mary's Primary School welcomed and celebrated the dedication of all those who have worked and continue to work to make this school, the safe and supportive learning environment, that it is.

The pupils were actively involved in the mass proceedings; the choir, musicians, readers, altar servers, those involved in the entrance and Offertory Procession, all did our school proud. The staff were very impressed with all our pupils, who demonstrated prayerfulness and respect throughout the mass.

Canon Stevenson delivered an uplifting, child-friendly and emotional service to an extremely large congregation. It was a very special and touching event. We extend our gratitude and thanks to the Very Reverend Canon Stevenson, Fr Stephen Crossan and Fr Tony Corr, who made this such a memorable occasion.

The School Principal, Mr Des O'Hagan, paid tribute to the inspirational, hard working and dedicated staff (past and present); the supportive and enthusiastic parents, the highly effective Board of Governors (past and present), the extremely active and resourceful PTA, and especially the wonderful pupils who always have been, are and always will be at the heart of St Mary's School community.

Mr O'Hagan extended his gratitude to the current staff for their commitment in the planning and preparation of all of the day's festivities.
