World Book Day P2 Mrs Quigley
World Book Day will be celebrated on Thursday 2nd March. Our pupils are encouraged to dress up as a character from a book, if you have a costume at home. Given the financial strain facing society, we do not expect parents to buy any outfit; the focus is on books and fostering a love of reading, so pupils may wear their own clothes or even their pyjamas.
Why is World Book Day important?
While dressing up is a fun part of World Book Day, that's not why we celebrate it. The main aim of the day is to encourage children to explore different genres and develop a passion for reading.
There are many benefits for children's academic and personal development. It can help to expand vocabulary, improve empathy, and increase concentration.
World Book Day also provides an opportunity for children, who may not have their own books at home, to have a day dedicated to celebrating storytelling.
In the age of digitalisation, it’s more important than ever to encourage our children to read and help them see the value of literature. By having events like World Book Day, teachers, and parents can focus on the importance of reading.
