Trócaire

Justice is at the heart of all of Trócaire’s work, both overseas and in Ireland. We provide humanitarian assistance and long-term support to communities in over 20 developing countries. In Ireland, the charity raises awareness about the root causes of poverty and inequality, and campaigns on justice issues.

Trócaire’s overseas work focuses on resource rights and developing sustainable livelihoods; supporting those affected by climate change; supporting people living with HIV; promoting gender equality and empowering women; and providing humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and natural disasters.

Each year we rely heavily on parental support throughout the Lenten period. We are acutely aware of the difficulties of the present economic climate but we hope that together we can raise enough money to make a difference.

As in previous years each class and year group will be organising special money raising events throughout February and March in a bid to raise as much money as possible, concluding with a non-uniform/Green day on Wednesday 16th March.

Additional information about the campaign can be found at the Trócaire website at www.trocaire.org. Thank you for your continuing support.

School PTA

The next meeting of our PTA will take place on Tuesday 23rd February at 7.30pm. All support is greatly appreciated.

Our Valentine’s Day Disco will take place on Friday 12th February from 6.30pm to 7.30pm for children up to P3 and from 7.45pm to 9.00pm for children from P4 to P7 in the school hall. £3.00 admission.

A huge thank you to all our children and parents for the fantastic support for the Coin Drive yesterday. All the money collected is presently being counted and will be announced in due course. Well done everyone!

Football Team Victory

Congratulations to St Mary's football team who won the third round of the EVO 7 aside League last week. This follows on from their victory in the South Down 5-a-side competition at the beginning of January. All the boys played fantastically well. Well done to Callum Cull and Taylor Hill, both boys had an outstanding tournament.

The next round of the EVO league will take place at Cheney Park on Thursday 25th February from 9.30am.

Half Term

School will be closed from Monday 15th February to Friday 19th February 2015 (inclusive) for the half term holiday.

Mass during Lent

Mass will take place in St Theresa’s each Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8.15am during Lent. Please encourage your child/ren to attend before school.

Super Swimmers

Congratulations to Alana and Lauren Burns-Atkin who represented St Mary’s at the National Swimming Championship in the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin on Sunday 7th February.

Following a very early, 6.00am start, the girls did St Mary’s proud with Alana finishing her 50 metres freestyle heat in 43:84.

Lauren did extremely well in her 50 metres breaststroke heat finishing in 56:49, knocking nearly 6 seconds of her personal best.

The girls were proudly supported by their mum, dad and younger sister Samantha. Even though no medals were won, it was an enjoyable day and the girls represented their school with pride. Well done girls!

School Menu

Please check the school website for the monthly school menu which is updated at the beginning of each month.

School Build

Please check the school website for monthly updates on progress of the new school.

Easter Holiday

School will be closed from Thursday 17th March to Friday 1st April 2016 (inclusive) for the Easter holiday. Easter Camp opens from Friday 18th March to Friday 25th March (inclusive). Registration forms will be available in the office and the Afterschool Club from Monday 22nd February.

Cross Country

Congratulations to Taylor Hill Taylor who finished 15th in the Northern Ireland Cross Country Finals on Wednesday. This fantastic achievement may qualify Taylor for the Northern Ireland Junior Team.

Well done Taylor! We hope you make it onto the Northern Ireland Junior Team.

Parking

Please continue to use St Therese’s car park to avoid congestion on the Scarva Road. There is limited parking available in St Patrick’s car park. The drop-off arrangements are working well and we would encourage parents to either park in St Therese’s car park, if you wish to escort your child to the school playground, or use the supervised drop- off points in St Patrick’s car park.

Please do not park in Clan na Banna car park. This is for staff parking only. Please avoid parking on the main road near our entrance and where our Traffic Patrol man operates. This is dangerous as it blocks his vision for crossing children.

Please be aware that Police and Traffic Wardens will be patrolling the Scarva Road area, in the mornings, to combat cars parking illegally or dangerously.
