Santa's Visit
On Wednesday 16th December children from the Playgroup, Nursery, P1, P2, P3 and P4 classes were greeted by a surprise visitor, Santa Claus, who distributed gifts to the children. Our thanks and appreciation to Barney Green who was able to assist us on the day.
St. Patrick's Open Night
St. Patrick's College Open Night will take place tonight, Thursday 17th January 2013. Principal's Address at 7.30 p.m. All P7 and P6 children and parents are encouraged to attend.
Post Primary Transfer
Post Primary Transfer Forms for P7 children will be issued to parents next week. Parents should complete the forms and return them to their child's teacher before Friday 8th February. A prompt return would be appreciated.
Ulster Swimming Gala
Congratulations to Caitlin Kearney and Eimear McMullan who represented the school in the Ulster Minor Schools Swimming Gala at Ballymena Seven Towers last weekend. Both girls finished in the top ten in their age group. Well done girls.
Gospel Mania
Well done to Emma Devine, Lily McGrath, Anna Watson, Eimear McMullan and Shannon Barlow who had successful auditions for the St. Patrick's Gospel Mania.
Coin Drive
The PTA Coin Drive will take place on Friday 1st February 2013. Children are asked to bring any loose change from home on Friday. Each class will, in turn, attempt to make the longest snake of coins around the assembly hall. The class with the heaviest amount of coins will receive a prize. The coins will then be counted and donated to the PTA. This year the PTA will support the school with the purchase of additional reading material and SEN resources. Thank you for your continuing support.
Dates
The school is closed from Monday 18th February to Friday 22nd February 2013 for the half term. School will also be closed on Tuesday 18th March for St. Patrick's Day. School will close on Wednesday 27th March at 11.15am for the Easter break. School reopens on Monday 8th April as normal.
Confirmation for P7 children will take place on Sunday 5th May 2013 at 3pm in St. Therese.
First Communion for P4 children will take place on Saturday 11th May 2013 at 11am in St. Therese.
Astronomy Club
St. Mary's Astronomy Club hopes to host a Star Gazing Night at the end of January beginning of February. The evening is weather dependent and a date and time will be finalised and issued by text. Please contact Julie in the office for further information.
Cross Country
Congratulations to all the children who participated in the Southern Sports Partnership Cross Country Championships at Banbridge Academy on Wednesday. Eleven boys and girls represented the school. Well done Lily McGrath and Caitlin Kearney who finished in the top 20 places out of 200 girls. Thank you to Mrs Coleman for escorting the children and Mr McGane and Mr Devlin.
Healthy Tuck Shop
Fresh Fruit Tuck Shop continues to be available for P5 to P7. Freshly prepared bags of fruit are now available at a cost of only 20p each.
St. Vincent de Paul
Thank you for the kind donations at our Key Stage 1 and P6 Christmas Plays. A cheque for £1,250 was donated to the Saint de Paul Society.
School Photographer
The School Photographer will be in school on Tuesday 29th January to take individual photographs of children in Nursery, Playgroup, Reception Class and P1. Parents in other year groups may have individual photographs taken on request. Please contact the office it required.
Annual Report
The 2011/12 Annual Report is now available to download from the school website. A hard copy is available, on request, from the school office.
School PTA
The next meeting of the PTA will take place on Tuesday 12th February at 7.30pm. All support is greatly appreciated. Parents and volunteers can contact our PTA via email at stmaryspta1@hotmail.co.uk.
Fun Fit
Fun Fit will begin next Tuesday, January 22nd in the Canteen from 2pm to 3pm for P1 to P3 and from 3pm to 4pm for P4 to P7. Fun Fit will run each Tuesday for 10 weeks until Tuesday 9th April.
Football
Well done to the boys football team who reached the semi-final of the Kilkeel 5 a-side tournament on Wednesday. Well done to Jack Doyle and Eoin Casey who both had an excellent tournament. Thank you to Mr Devlin for coaching and taking the boys to Kilkeel.
Girls Gaelic Football
Girls Gaelic Football for P5 to P7 girls will begin next Wednesday 23rd January from 3pm to 4pm.
School Council Raffle
The School Council is raffling two VIP tickets for the Magic Variety Show in the Parish Centre on Sunday 27th January. Raffle tickets cost 50p each. P7 Council members will hold the raffle on Thursday 24th January.
Inline Hockey Club
STAR Inline Hockey Club for P7 children will commence in Banbridge Leisure Centre on Wednesday 23rd January from 3 - 5pm. Parents should arrange to collect their child from the Leisure Centre at 5pm.
School Certificates
Congratulations to Naill McGrane, Liam Crossey, Enrico Scappaticci, Liam Fitzpatrick, Ellie D'Arcy, Sarah Sloan and Ryan Byrne on being awarded a class certificate for good work during the week commencing 7th January.
