Mrs Morrow’s Primary 7 class enjoyed a fantastic day out at Tesco, Castlewellan Road, where they learnt the importance of maths in an everyday context.
They were taught how advertisers promote their brands and that bigger brands are not always the best quality or value for money. They also had the opportunity to taste different brands of the same item, to compare both quality and taste.
Pupils were then given the challenge of going onto the shop floor, to shop for a family of four for a week, with a budget of only £50.00. The team closest to £50.00 were declared the winners of the challenge! Huge congratulations to Harry Fowler, Cíarraí Simspon, Liam Lynch, Oonagh Walker and Cora Malone, who managed to spend a total of £44.86 and were the winning team.
Primary 7 pupils wish to express a huge thank you to Cathy, Joan and Zara from our local Tesco branch for making this day a truly wonderful, life learning experience.
